Home Visits and Telephone Consultations

Home Visits

Home visits will only be made by our GPs to patients who are too ill to get the surgery.

If you do need a home visit please telephone as early as possible and make it clear to the receptionist who takes your call knows that you are asking for a home visit.

The Duty Doctor will call you back to ask about the details of your problem and to see if any help or advice can be given over the telephone. If the Duty Doctor agrees that a visit is necessary, and your call has been received by 11.00 AM, the visit will nomally take place between 12.30 and 2.00PM. Home visits arranged later in the day are likely to take place after 6.00 PM.

If you contact the out of hours service and they agree to make a home visit it may take place at any time between 6.30 PM and 8:00 AM.

All practice and out of hours staff will carry NHS Identity Cards and if you do not recognise them please check their identity before letting them into your home.

Telephone Consultations

Until May 2007 it was possible to call and request a telephone consultation. However, with the telephone triage system that has been in operation since that date, all patients requesting an appointment are called back by the Duty Doctor and if their problem can be dealt with by telephone it will be. It is possible to ask the Duty Doctor to arrange for a specific doctor to call you back, but please be aware that this will almost certainly result in some further delay.
