Dr Andy Smithers trained at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London qualifying in 1984.
I always wanted to be a GP and after completing my 2 House-jobs in Aberdeen and Stratford on Avon I remained in Warwickshire to complete my General Practice vocational training at Warwick Hospital, the former Warnford Hospital in Leamington Spa and the Central Hospital at Hatton.
As a GP trainee at the Bertie Road Surgery in Kenilworth I received an excellent grounding in the Principles of General Practice and was introduced to the fascinating alternative practice of homoeopathy by one of the Doctors there. I continue to prescribe homoeopathic medicine where appropriate. Many patients prefer this form of alternative medicine to standard therapies.
I joined Park Leys Medical Practice in May 1989, and got married 2 months later.
I am still here and remain happily married, having 3 children and an assortment of animals at home, including doves, chickens, a Harris Hawk, ferrets and of course a dog!!
I have been an investigator taking part in Clinical Research Studies since 1991 and to date have participated in over 200 Clinical drug trials. (Click here for more information on drug trials)
In General Practice I have a special interest in Psychiatry and Mental Health as well as Female Health, (the Menopause) and Male Health (erectile dysfunction).
When not working I am still restoring a 350 year old barn conversion and love fell-walking, cooking and listening to music, sometimes, all at the same time!!
